Sadly, it's been deleted now, but someone suggested that our genetic illness might be caused by demons of illness and perhaps prayer is the answer for a cure.

To which I replied that I had a genetic disease, not a moral stain.

To which others replied that there was nothing accusatory about his comments (infested by demons? pray for deliverance? WHAT?).

I had to laugh. "Spirits of infirmity" sounds like a bad speed metal band.

What, is this the middle ages?

[identity profile] kathrynrose.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I read that as sarcastic. Do you think he meant it literally?

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. If you look at his journal it's all about that sort of stuff. Sadly, it's been deleted.

[identity profile] nex0s.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Looks like it was removed. What an ass though!!!

[sarcasm] I guess if I pray hard enough, I will cast out the Demon that causes me to not be able to eat dairy, cumin, and nightshades! WOO![/sarcasm]

WTF?!

i took offense, too, and thought that the post had moral stain implied all over it. pray for deliverance from Celiac? anyway, i tried to reply to your comment, and the post went poof!

[identity profile] winterknight.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, being infested by demons doesn't necessarily mean you're a bad person. It means you have demons. Silly girl.

The demons are obviously affecting your comprehension! It wasn't an accusation, he's trying to help!

I think he needs to be on meds.

[identity profile] nex0s.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, is the devil really that short on work that he has to send demons to my guts?

Also, it turns out that Buffy grows up and becomes a Gastroenterologist!

"Dr.Summers' Sing Along Intestine."

OK, now I'm amusing myself WAY too much....

Yup. I went to the guy's journal, seems he is a celiac and that he's also really religious. I'm not sure if I feel better it wasn't a troll.

[identity profile] nex0s.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I like his friend who said "no one's saying it's a moral stain!"

I'm kinda glad I missed that mess.. He clearly has some issues.

[identity profile] weirdodragoncat.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
wow....

guess that means I have demons causing my depression and anxiety.

clueless asshole ...for the win!

AS a Catholic, I've never really thought that prayer about anything that doesn't run counter to the tenants of my religion (i.e. no praying that somebody dies because I dislike him/her) is a bad idea. :)

That said, no disease is the cause of evil spirits or can/should be treated by exorcism or (solely) prayer. Jeesh.

[identity profile] spiralflames.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
sigh. ouch.

and WHEN will these morons realize that the crazy-ass judgment hurts their cause WAY more than anything else.

huh. i wonder if i'm haunted by demons.

hell. i wonder if i ARE a de-mun.

Oh, deliverance theology. My favorite subset of Christianity.

I mean, they can't be serious, right?

[identity profile] stardragonca.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, they can. If you are sick, God doesn't love you.

[identity profile] stardragonca.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it's the U.S.

Wow. I think I've found another item to add to the (very short) list of statements that will reduce me to spluttering, incoherent fury. Good to know!

Meanwhile, if you need me, I'll be over there, despairing of the human race - some members of it, at least...

I remember one of the Idol contestants attempted to equate genetic "abnormalities" with original sin.

Not the demons. Thetans!

*snort* *LOL*

As a civilisation (just humour me here) we are at that awkward age. The dominant culture is a society of displaced peasants, driven off the land, and forced to live in town, for the first time since the fishing villages of the Neolithic.
The U.S. is full of people whose families were driven off the land, hauled across the ocean, driven off the land again.

They have electricity. They just don't believe in it.

I had to laugh.

I'ved lived most of my life in rural Alberta. It's not funny.
