- When I dress in masculine clothes it's not to avoid street harassment as a woman, but today it seems like as good a reason as any.
Dear Men:

When I run my hand through my hair walking down the street it does not mean "please tell me how much you want to fuck me while using your horrible pseudo-Barry White voice." It does mean "gah, my hair is in my face."

- So, not only has HBP been delayed -- there are some stills from it out and about. I am not pleased. Largely, I've not been very up in arms about the films -- they are what they are and their visual language has been interesting enough to me, that other than noting the foolishness of their decisions re: Snape, adult narrative and ambiguity in the series, I've let it all go pretty easily. But seriously? Not kneeling for the unbreakable vow? Also, I hate their conception of Narcissa. HATE.

- I should see this exhibit. Among other things, I find the paintings oddly sweet. http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2008/08/15/arts/20080815-HOUS_index.html

- Actually, that's it. I want a a nap.

That Narcissa has entirely too much spine. She's supposed to look like a strong wind would knock her over. Especially in that scene.

Based on the one photo I saw .. I hate her, too. I'm going to hope it turns out better than it looked.

Based on the actor Helen McCrory's look, but not having seen any pictures, this part does seem to have been epically miscast. Maybe not Angela Jolie as Grendel's mother miscast, but seriously...

The guys who do drive-by comments on one's appearance don't care one bit what their target says, does, or looks like, since they're talking to hear themselves talk and using people external to themselves as fuel for their pronouncements. (Kind of like sexist MSTing, I hadn't thought of it like that before.) Or, in this case, as an excuse to use their pseudo-Barry White voice, since they have no other stage to use it on. Thirty years ago this kind of thing used to bother me, but when it happens enough a filter grows into place which gives it no more significance than a storefront speaker blaring, "We're having a going-out-of-business sale, great discounts on all our products."
