Susan Boyle is in her 40s. She lives alone, with her cat, and says she has never been kissed. As a child, she was apparently the target of bullies because of a disability.

And then she went on reality TV in Britain. People were surely expecting a punch line, but probably not this one.

To say that she has a voice and a half seriously understates the case.

I saw that, last night. It was amazing!

I really hope that a) she goes far on the show and b) no-one talks her into any damfool "makeovers" in the meantime (although I, for one, would have rethought the color of that dress...)

Looks like she's already talking record deal, no matter what happens. So that's good.

I find it completely reassuring that people know what's extrodinary when it's right in front of them.
Still tear when I watch that.

Yeah, me too. It's like listening to a giant audience in St. Paul going wild after Billy Collins read a poem. I had to pull over that time, it was kind of overwhelming in a good way.

The woman has an amazing voice. I have to admit, watching the gears in Simon Cowell's head slam into a 180 as his eyebrows went right into his hairline was a treat to watch as he realized Holy crap, this woman can sing!

So amazing! It might be cliched, but it brought tears to my eyes.

We are still so very apt to judge a book by it's cover.

I saw this earlier today, and it is just so inspiring! And, yes, she has an amazing voice! :)

I'd happily buy an album of her doing showtunes or whatnot!

Yeah! I watched it last night, and I just looooooved watching Simon's face as he registered her voice. And the fact that people, when they heard her, reassessed their orginal stance of "this is going to be humiliating for her" to "standing ovation".

Her voice is amazing. But never been kissed, how terrible :( She will have a tiny makeover to make her more marketable it's inevitable but they cannot change the fact she is 47, never kissed, and AMAZING!

I saw a clip earlier this afternoon and thought it was great! My only concern is what is the likelyhood that she can find an actual career singing at this point? Sure people may buy an album given her amazing voice, but one album does not mean making a living.

To be sure I'm rooting for her, but my glass is half full.

Ooh, I just found that ysterday! The clip is amazing, for the shock, and the audience's expressions, and the most dazed look I've ever seen on Simon cowell.

Humanity needs to be slapped with stuff like this on a regular basis, me included.

Lightning strikes twice on this show? I saw this clip and thought of how Paul Potts made the same thing happen in 2007.

*nod* [livejournal.com profile] gridlore and I were watching the clip and I said to him "Somewhere, Paul Potts is calling his agent and saying 'GET HER.'"

That didn't make me cry. At all. And I hate Les Mis.
She sounds a little like Julie Andrews.

That was amazing to watch...for both her voice and to see Simon completely gobsmacked.
