  • Just had the most productive shopping trip EVER. Although there isn't a brown belt that I actually like in this city that fits my waist.

  • Star Trek. Hot damn! Okay, critically, the script has a big expositional stupidity in the middle of it, but who cares? Funny, clever, joyous, totally perverse. It's really a brilliant, brilliant reboot. I've never been particularly fannish about Trek (and not at all about original Trek) which was just a childhood thing for me. Oh man, am I fannish about this. Spock/Uhura! Uhura/Green Roommate! Kirk/everyone! It's all screeming for awesome poly!fic in space. OMG. WHERE IS THE PORN?

You know what else I loved? LOVED LOVED LOVED! It was so clear that what these folks in Star Fleet do is fucking hard. A lot of movies succeed because they convince you "I could do that!" when no, you couldn't or no, it wouldn't be that cool in real life (see: "Torchwood - bisexual is inefficient manager"); this one succeeds because it convinces you, you are just not ever going to be that badass.

  • In light of the above, check out [livejournal.com profile] regan_v talking about how we need to reboot the fanfic tropes for Star Trek too.

  • Date night with Patty tonight. A few more errands and some work first though!

    Absolutely.

It's not front burner right now, but I have a couple of very solid ideas.

Among other things, I want to see the movie again and also see that the reboot fandom can agree to reboot the stupid pronged Vulcan penis thing, because I am _not_ writing that.

I've heard good things about Star Trek from just about everyone I know who's seen it. J and I might see it tonight because he is, of course, a fan (no big surprise there).

I can't wait to see the spoils of your shopping trip.

a shirt (no French cuffs, but it will do for now); three fabulous ties (one suspiciously Ianto-like, but it was $6!); two pairs of shoes I don't hate! Really good day.

God, yes. Usually I pick one ship and stick with it, and I was going in with strong Kirk/Spock leanings, but then the Spock/Uhura happened and I was like... oh. Oh. Because that, that was hot.

And of course there's the green roommate... Uhura walks in and she's lounging on the bed in her underwear, and Uhura's response is to... take off her clothes. Is that normal? Fascinating.

just came back from seeing new trek and thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved Uhuru/Spock!

I can't wait to see where New Trek goes.

Oh, when Kirk landed on the ice planet, all three of us, including our 10 year old, went "It's Hoth!"

The 10 year old has also decided she's a total geek as she likes Buffy, Torchwood (I let her watch specific eps without too much violence and she covers her eyes for the sex), some Star Wars, manga, and Trek. That acorn hasn't fallen far! ;-p

    "Absolutely."

OH! I had the Hoth moment too, and was just waiting for him to climb inside a big fuzzy dead thing. Or perhaps just Spock's big fuzzy coat, hahaha!

If the NSA insists on knowing that I just Googled 'pronged Vulcan penis' then it serves them bloody well right.

I just saw the new Trek, and WOW, SO GOOD. (Aside from the dubious astrophysics and shaky villain motivation, to which I say lalalala LOOKIT ALL THE PRETTY!)

Trek is my ur-fandom. My dad was a fan when it first aired and I grew up watching the show. I am so incredibly happy that they managed to respect the past and create this brand new, shiny universe to explore.

I cannot wait to see what they do next!

I was a fan when it originally aired, it's one of the only things I remember from that part of my life! And I watched it again and again and again in reruns... We saw the movie this afternoon and I LOVED IT. It was somehow SO VERY STAR TREK. And everyone was lovely, and Eric Bana made such a wonderful over-the-top Star Trek villain! And, my god, not only Kirk/Spock, but Spock basically sets his younger self UP with Kirk. Oh, God help us all. Adorable.

I thought of you when Sulu said what his hand-to-hand combat skill was. XD XD XD

Pronged Vulcan penis? I have never heard of this and my First Fandom was Trek (more recent Trek, but there was a Vulcan in it!) I think that may have already been rebooted. With luck.

I saw your comment on [livejournal.com profile] regan_v's thread and came over here pretty much just to agree. Spock/Uhara rocks my world, basically anyone can be shipped with anyone, and the porn needs to arrive now, please.

Captain Jack says so, but that's crossover fic, and...

    OH GOD KIRK/HARKNESS/HALP.

You and me both. I'm half toying with a Jack who has done the linear thing to Kirk's time and is like "kid, calm the fuck down!"

    From: [identity profile] bodlon.livejournal.com
Yeah, that's the brilliant thing. Linear Jack is good for all sorts of things.

Also, is it just me or is Iowa suddenly really appealing now that it's got gay marriage and new!Trek going for it? I'm really hoping that my drive to Minneapolis will cure me.

Yeah, OK, the penis thing is definitely not cannon. *blushes, runs to hide*
