  • I ordered new checks at Citibank two weeks ago. They should have arrived by now. I went into Citibank -- they forgot to order them. Now I get them for free. Oi.

  • I am trying to order this dress for the cruise. The sale is ridiculous and I have the same model dress in a print at a shorter length so I know it will fit. It's such a starlet dress, I love it. *Glares at fucking paypal*

  • Patty bought a fabulous dress today too.

  • More details have emerged about the break-in at our office suite. Photos of the perp have been passed around and the whole case strikes me as rather bizarre. On one hand, he wore a suit and had small luggage to carry stuff out, looking all corporate. On the other hand, he ignored the eight billion conspicuous cctv cams here and, get this, scaled the wall (the offices in the suite don't have walls that go all the way up for wiring and AC purposes, but they are still like 9' high) to get stuff. Surely there are easier ways to steal a laptop?

  • Hey, LeakyCon is this weekend, and I won't be there. Have fun, kids. Part of me is melancholy to miss it, but part of me is glad for the HP break this year.

  • I think I want to try to do the Minneapolis plane ticket thingy this weekend. Waiting to hear from Kali as we might travel together.

  • I'm itching to write. Should do that Madonna essay in the next couple of days, but should also see what on my fanfiction stack I want to get done next. The last one felt good.

  • Also, MY NAME IS NOT RACHEL. This bothers me more than I can possibly describe. My name does not have the hard ch-sound in it, and it is NOT A DIMINUTIVE. It is also not an affectation. It's the legal name my parents gave me. Don't bloody drop the last syllable. If you want a nickname for me, ask. It won't be Rachel.

CCTV does not reduce crime, except in car parks, and then mostly if there's added lighting and actual security guards.

Love the dress! I just wish Trashy Diva had stuff that was a) my size and b) my price range. Bought a pair of boots from them a couple of years ago and ended up giving them away cause they wouldn't zip over my calves.

    what a super great site!

too bad (or good?) everything i want to order is out of stock in my size!

I find their stuff to be very strangely sized, in that the waists are very small and the busts are very large. That dress, I know, could easily hold a DD-cup, which is so not me or I think most women with my waist-size. It's serious undergarment rocket science.

All those weird facts make me think that thief wanted something very specific. Maybe someone in your company is secretly a spy and it is international espionage. Hah.

Starlet's the word! It looks like it belongs on one of those Thirties beauties from the Hollywood fan magazines...

Dresses: y'all are going to look just sensational.

    Oi: vay!

Perp:most criminals think they are too clever to get caught, and most aren't. Criminals do not have good problem solving skills.
Erroneous name presumption: U.S. habit that is the most made of fail. Grr.

    Writing: Looking forward to.

I get the name thing. My name is Tina. Not Christina or Christine. Just Tina. See birth certificate.

I have had several teachers make fusses about it, and my sixth grade teacher absolutely refused to call me Tina because it was inappropriate to use nicknames in an educational setting. I finally had to bring in my birth certificate, and even then, she refused, saying she couldn't help it my parents chose to give me a nickname. Turned into a meeting with the principal on that one.

Strangely, I get Lisa a lot, too. No idea why. Four letters, same vowels in the same spot...I've had it so much over the years, I practically answer to both. But NOT to Christina :)

Fight for the right to use your proper name...

Oh, she got forced to call me Tina, and I think she begrudged it of me the rest of the year. There were petty things like, when I won the school spelling bee, she 'accidentally' lost my certificate (but not that of the runner-up). Or one day when I got sun poisoning on the playground and broke out in blisters on my arms, she said that I just needed to cool off, not see the nurse. She'd mark things wrong on my papers even though they were right. It became a battle of wills, but one thing you could never fight me on and WIN was my grades. I was Hermione Granger without the bad hair. I called her on the grading every time and sucked up the rest.

because it was inappropriate to use nicknames in an educational setting

Seriously? My own (RL) name as commonly used is a contraction of the full one, and I never got any flak over it, not from the teachers. (Mind you, I was in a class with an Asian girl who gave the teachers initial difficulties in pronouncing the first name... all sorted out v. quickly tho'.)
