  • Our Lies by Rasputina is a thing of genius.

  • It's raining. Again. I've sheltered the plants as much as I can, because it's just too much water. If it would just be dry for a day so we could have bees we'd have tomatoes growing on all or most plants.

  • I think I am making an emo!Ianto mix. Because I can. It's really cracky, though. So I'm not sure if I'm actually going to share.

  • I'd like one day this week wherein my getting an early start actually means I finish early, as opposed to meaning "bullshit expands to fit the space available."

  • Last night Patty and I went to one of the Iran protests here. We're in a lot of pictures. Participants were mostly Iranian, and I was surprised, expecting to see more random supporters, although we were out in force too. I'm glad we went. Afterwards, we bought groceries.

  • Speaking of Patty. She's doing so well in the Science Scouts. Ha. They need an auxiliary for poor, long-suffering partners. I'm just saying.

  • Obama killed a fly. PETA freaked out. I'm still freaked out about it, because he was so fucking intense and satisfied about it. To be frank, it was kind of creepy, although I now totally get why he and Emmanuel are BFFs.

  • As usual, thanks for liking my digital speechifying. Particularly cool? [livejournal.com profile] eumelia got asked to translate it into Hebrew and is so doing.

  • I am reading The Angel's Cut with great satisfaction. It is, thus far, a lesser book than The Vintner's Luck, but I'm glad of that too. It's as it should be.

Welcome to my junk drawer theory :) (Junk always expands to fit...)

I've been blown away by Rasputina since I saw them open for The Cranes almost 10 years ago. I had no clue who they were....but once they played, I was in awe. I bought their (at the time) one CD on the spot.

Tomatoes can be self-pollinating. I'm not sure how well it will work in really damp weather, but grasp the stem below the blossoms and give it a vigorous shake for a couple seconds to get the pollen flowing. You can also lightly flick the blossoms with your finger.

I loved that moment - Obama has ninja fly skills. He is welcome to slap mosquitoes and flies on my porch any day. Mwuhahaha.

Flies are hard to kill (without tools designed for that purpose), they're just so dern fast; it requires an intense focus to succeed, and unless you're a martial arts master, that intense a focus is noticeable.

Also, succeeding at any difficult task is satisfying.

So this doesn't seem freaky to me at all.

Agreed about The Angel's Cut, on all fronts (and I won't say anything else about it until you're done).

I loved Rasputina until the Cabin Fever album. Not sure why, what happened. Is this more like their older stuff? If so, I'll give it a whirl. If not, I'll pass.

I get PETA. I do. But flies? Really? I wouldn't mind if he killed a few million roaches while he was at it.

I sent you a PM regarding the translation to your awesome digital speechifying.

    Ta!

I had a feeling that would happen... and am I the only one who finds it ironic that they didn't also go after him for the Great Hamburger Expedition of 2009?

ME TOO. There is a wasp on my couch though so now I have to go.

"Oh yes, Mother, I’m still a virgin / And you are Marilyn Monroe..." I was just thinking today that I should bring my Rasputina CDs to work and upload them to my 'puter.

We just had a wasp in my house too... You think maybe they're attacking?!?!?! I mean, I GUESS they could just be avoiding the wet weather, but WHO KNOWS?! lol

I like that phrase thought: Bullshit expands to fit space available.... sounds like the dilemma of my life.

Now I'm picturing President Obama going after a fly with chopsticks. (I saw The Karate Kid on Friday, first time in years. Still a fun flick.)

    Randomly,
    Chris

I literally just finished The Vintner's Luck a week ago, and I had no idea there was a sequel until a few days later. I was dubious about it, since I adored TVL--but it sounds like it's worth it!

Honeybees don't typically pollinate tomatoes. Instead, give your tomato plants a good shake every day, that way they will pollinate each other.

The only way that Our Lies gets any better is to see them do it live. They are positively spectacular live.
