I'm so glad to have met you at Writercon! Not only are you an awesome person with awesome tastes in fandom, but you and lift and versa really helped me (and hopefully a lot of other people as well) see the things that are going on in fandom (and the world by extension) and try to find ways to make it better.
And though I somehow missed all the fail as it happened in fandom, I'm gonna start applying the principles I did to fail in WoW to fail I may come across in fandom (though if some panels were an indication of fandomwank, I think I will steer clear of there xD).
Oh, and PS: In the one panel in particular, though I can understand that people have dealt with fail so many times that they don't even want to go there again, I felt that a lot of the people attending did not have those conversations (me included) and though it's ugly, if there was one place to have fail and subsequently fix fail, it was that panel. Unfortunately what happened seemed to only further the rift between fail and failing better.
That's a good an interesting point -- I do so much of this, I tend to assume we've all heard it and been involved in the same convos over and over by now, and that's not true. More tomorrow, but it was lovely meeting you and I'm so glad you found me on LJ!
I'm glad that you still can refer to problems as growing pains. I like to think that that's what's happening. Because fandom is something that could be really awesome.
I'm really looking forward to reading everything about Writercon, I never knew about before reading you and now it's a con I'd very much like to go to one day.
On fail issues and marginalisation, I don't know why it must seem glamorous to have people insult you and (try to) murder you. Hollywood, I presume.
