Exactly - and James Moran talked openly about th parallels with this episode of Buffy, how he too reacted strongly to Tara's death, and yet somehow Ianto's death was not going to provoke JUST such a shitstorm from fans? Maybe Moran was sincerely clueless, but I doubt very much whether RTD was - maybe he was trying to out-Joss Joss?
