I think your reading of it is right on. It's not the thing Jack must have in a relationship, at all, but if this is how it's going to go, then it's damn well going to be done correctly (or as correctly as it can be, considering the people involved). And it's less about the trappings and more about the actions/loyalties. And of course, Ianto is obsessosexual, so whatever is going on is all that is going on now and forever.
I think the kink_bingo prompts are me sort of poking this idea of Jack and Ianto in a fairly formal D/s relationship with sticks in preparation for a longer, multi-chaptered piece I might right on the theme. Right now I'm still sort of weighing where I want to go with the level of kink in such a project (probably pretty heavy to the average reader, although not necessarily as heavy as I'm capable and tempted to write) and how they get there in the first place. These are my test balloons.
