Hee re: the USB typewriter - I saw mrtonylee's tweet about that and clicked through to the Mashable article; wonder if these will still be prohibited from that writers' room that forbade traditional typewriters? /eta: and I didn't see that it's actually a hack that someone made using an Arduino, chip of choice for those who love to make their own computer peripherals.
Kudos to NYT for not only coming out in favor of equal marriage rights, but saying outright that DOMA's repeal is overdue.
