  • Yeah, so have not gotten my Friends of the Text thing done.

  • Hey, contract came last night. Yay. I don't think I'm supposed to talk about it yet because the volume hasn't been officially announced. But it's a good thing. Happy post-office day.

  • I am getting antsy about knowing scheduling things for D*C, but what can you do? Lots of this is that many tracks say "we will tell you what's going on by this date" and then don't, because, quite legitimately, they are very busy, all-volunteer and the unexpected does happen. But it's not good for my impatience.

  • Last night, my mother asked if I was going over to help Patty get settled in Cardiff when she goes. It seemed like the only good time to say "No, because that doesn't make sense, but I'm probably going to go spend Thanksgiving with her." I expected a shitstorm. I was wrong. My mother TOTALLY understood. So, uh, yeah. That's half a plan. I'm grateful. We'll refrain from examining the complete absurdity that will be me trying to cook a gluten-free Thanksgiving meal for two (or who knows, if Patty collects some random ex-pat friends) in Cardiff.

  • Also sent in the RSVP for the wedding in Chicago today. I need to make hotel reservations.

  • Speaking of heat, because Chicago is the devil in August, the heat here is really grinding me down.

  • Completely cranky that Patty and I found out about the New York Waterfront thing this weekend too late to get reservations on any of the really cool boats. We may try standby stuff. Or we may spend a fun afternoon in Brooklyn. Or we may blow the whole thing off and go to the Plaza's new Food Hall instead.

  • Whale! Seriously, is the whale okay?

  • A business executive was shot and killed by a police officer at a gay cruising spot. The officer says the executive propositioned him, then tried to flee when the cop moved to arrest him, eventually trying to disarm the cop. There are all sorts of ways this cause could prove to be more ugly than it already is. I fear all sorts of worst.

  • The latest on the clocktower. Patty's rightfully fascinated by this apartment, so real-estate update for her. Also, I think it's a near moral obligation that whoever gets the apartment be a Doctor Who fan, ne?

  • I have not seen Sherlock yet, which I need to get on (ETA: Oh! Apparently no one has, except all the various people I follow on Twitter with various in's to advance showings. Gotcha. So lovely not to be behind.). White Collar and Covert Affairs thoughts posted last night. There's way too much TV that is relevant to my interests lately both personally and professionally, and it's awesome, but more than a little inconvenient.

Sherlock doesn't air till Sunday night. I'm super excited and a bit nervous to see how it all plays out.

Oh, I thought it already aired in the UK? Or am I just seeing tweets from people/reviewers who have seen advance screenings?

Yup, seekrit project should be announced early August sometime (assuming that we're thinking of the same project)...until then, we are seekrit. :-)

Nope, July 25th 9pm BBC1 according to the Moff's tweets. I'm thinking it's advanced screenings, since I've seen a few of those too.

And someone needs to buy me that Clocktower place so I can install a lot of equipment and pretend to be Barbra Gordon.

Thanksgiving traditional food is pretty GF to begin with, though, ne? Turkey, yams, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce; the stuffing and rolls are bread, granted, but most of the rest isn't too bad. Didn't you say something about finding some good GF stuff in Cardiff, or was that Zurich?

If the weather keeps up as it has, Chicago might be uninhabitable by August, or it might be snowing. We have had extreme and continuous heat in a way I didn't expect from the past two summers' experience, which may mean an early winter, but is more likely to mean it's only going to get worse.

Zurich had the good gluten-free croissants (and I will probably be in Zurich just a few weeks before) and Cardiff had the good gluten-free Welsh cakes (and we were told of another gluten-free bakery in Roath we never got to), but I don't know about gluten-free bread, specifically, in Wales. I'm sure it will work out. Tesco has all things, right?

And if Tesco doesn't, Sainsbury's might!

I am jealous that everybody but me has tried Fabulous Welshcakes. I found the damn place! :D

I may take you up on that!

Really I'm jealous that it's going to be years before I get to go overseas again. :P But I'm starting planning now! Maybe I'll win the lottery.

    From MSNBC

"Bits of black whale blubber and barnacles," were strewn on the boat deck, but the couple did not see any blood in the water.

"The whale might have gotten a scratch and a bump on its head, but it surfaced again, so we don't think it was harmed," she said."

Modern-dress update of the Conan Doyle stories, as done by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, with Benedict Cumberbatch playing Holmes - consulting detective to the Met - and Martin Freeman as Watson, Afghanistan veteran and Holmes' colleague. Most recent trailer linked from here; official BBC mini-site; fansite.

The whale is probably okay -- got banged up. There'd be no way for anyone to really know since it probably took off rubbing it's head, figuratively.

RE: the new Holmes. I've got to see it. I've seen pics of Watson and he hits my 'old soldier' kink hard.

You so know the whale was only doing it on a dare to impressed the other whales in its pod. They probably bet him a ton of plankton that he could jump over the boat.

    Also, re: the whale...WOW!

I have no BBC access right now so when you get a chance please review Sherlock.

Rolls aren't really optional, but "stuffing" can mean a whole host of things, including many non-bread options which are never meant to be "stuffed" into the bird in the first place.

I find it unfair that you're not going to be in Chicago until after I leave.

(And yes yes, I know I probably wouldn't be able to hang out with you regardless as weddings are full of BUSY, but the thought is still there.)
