Angel and Torchwood are definitely the prime example for that juxtaposition. It's really hit or miss, isn't it? And sometimes it can be so hard to tell the hits from the misses. I mean, just look at season 4 of Angel, s6 of Buffy, and especially CoE. Are they evidence of a show finally growing up or a loss of the crack that made the show in the first place? People are so torn. I don't think you see that, as much, outside of the Buffy and Whoniverse.
