I think nearly everyone has had this reaction. I've read some completely correct and well-executed opinion pieces in the Times and elsewhere today, but nothing quite reaches the pitch, scale or epic-ness of language I feel is required here.
Honestly, I would like to consider the whole matter beneath the notice of any American who isn't virulently racist (my parents, for example, who can be incredibly unenlightened on matters of race are deeply, DEEPLY appalled by all this nonsense), but that's not a luxury that any of us have.
