  • Return of the eye-mask. I feel really well-rested. But that might be because I overslept by an hour.

  • Patty's parents arrive today. Also, she got a really cute haircut.

  • I have just gotten my face waxed. As per usual, they made my eyebrows too thin. They do open up my eyes when they are done, but I hate when they are too thin -- they speak to me of gender-normative desires I don't have. Of course, knowing this would happen, I got them done ten days before anything I care about -- they'll be coming back in slightly by then, and if not, I'll use pencil to fix. Because, argh, I am not a delicate thing with big eyes who is harmless. No.

  • They haven't decided if it was a tornado yet, but it sure does look like it. Power actually blipped at my office several times, which was very surprising.

  • How many birthdays of living celebrities do you know? I wonder how many the average person knows. Celebrities you actually socialize with don't count at all, because that defeats the purpose of my question.

  • The Joaquin Phoenix documentary, I'm Still Here, isn't real. While everyone I know expresses some level of annoyance or boredom while insisting on their own lack of credulity on the matter before this was revealed, I'm shocked that more people aren't finding the thing at least abstractly interesting. Because, in short, this is about a guy and his friends writing RPF about themselves.

  • While most people I know are horrified, I can't get past how right it feels to me that Sacha Baron Cohen will be playing Freddie Mercury in a new movie.

  • Reasons why it's good to date a writer. [livejournal.com profile] jennifer_brozek responds. I engage in too many different creative practices to expect all of these to apply to me, but the response to 18 makes me laugh and laugh and laugh.

  • Too bad I'll be out of the country for the Stewart/Colbert rallies on the mall.

  • [livejournal.com profile] shweta_narayan has an amazing post about the personal cost and general non-success of trying to assimilate in the way some people (most recently, Elizabeth Moon) would have you, erroneously, believe all immigrants must in order to succeed and do with ease and acceptance. It's important information and great writing.

  • Credit where credit is due: A BYU student and Mormon defends his editorial criticizing the Mormon church for its involvement in fighting Prop 8.

  • What you can do to fight DADT right now. Meanwhile, The New York Times calls on Obama to stop enforcing the policy.

  • [livejournal.com profile] senseless wants to know if you can help find another missing 16-year-old.

  • Buddy needs thyroid treatment. Help him at [livejournal.com profile] nuke_our_cat.

I've never really paid attention to celebrities.

I would have crushes on characters and have no interest in their actors at all. I didn't know what the actors were like and I didn't care enough to find out -- they weren't the ones who were real.

I'd no idea there was a movie about Queen/Freddie Mercury in the works!

OMG! SBC will be fucking amazing! I still think one of his best performances was as a voice actor in the the "Madagascar" movies (don't judge!), he's a freakin' chameleon!

I've tried to think of various celebs that I like and honestly I have no idea about b-days. Then again, it takes a lot of effort for me to remember my sibs' b-days. I'm very bad with dates.

I hate it when my eyebrows are too thin as well - I'm surprised that they don't take requests...

I'm interesting in the J. Phoenix documentary, but that's just because I like him, :).

I'm REALLY looking forward to SBC playing Freddie Mercury. Given his level of excellence with immersing himself in previous roles, I honestly couldn't begin to think of anyone better, :).

I want to go to the Stewart/Colbert rallies so much! RIII will probably be working that weekend, so it's just not feasible, :(.

Left a message for Sen. Voinovich - *fingers crossed*

Conditions close enough to be a tornado for the matter to be in doubt are still pretty nasty. I've been in the middle of a reported forming tornado that didn't happen at the last minute, I've had a tornado pass over my head while it was forming, and we've lost several trees to tornado-warning weather.

The death of the woman in her car was reported locally, because we worry about that stuff hereabouts.

I'm glad it wasn't worse than it was.

I am going to be very disappointing to anyone who dates me b/c they think I might write about or dedicate something to them.

SBC's an interesting choice, and I think he'll pull it off. I'm curious about the biopic, and am trying to hold off on judging it until I see it.

Re: I'm Still Here, I'm somehow not surprised by the performance art angle.

I had the great good fortune to watch Freddie shopping in a closed store. Seriously, what a lovely, lovely man he was.

A local radio station sent several people to see I'm Still Here and then had them on discussing whether or not it was real (this was before the announcement). The thing that struck me was the one person arguing that it absolutely could not be real because if Phoenix had truly fallen that low he would have mentioned River, who never comes up.

I feel you on the brows, but then despite my basically femme-lite self-presentation, I don't like my eyebrows done at all.

These days I won't even let anyone else take off the hair in the middle after one beautician outright disobeyed what I had told her and went a quarter inch into each brow. When called on it said "but don't you like it better?" a) no, that's why I told you not to do it, dipshit and b) even if it was transformatively beautiful, it would not make up for having my control over my own body ignored.

That was over 10 years ago, it's never quite grown back as thick to this day, and what makes me the most insane is that if I could find this woman and tell her so, she would not understand why that was a problem.
