adventures in archaeology

I have talked to Patty.

Most of her trench workers are young teen girls. One, who is 12, is the boss of everyone. And will say "Patty, phone!" and Patty has to turn over her mobile so that the girl can call her friends, and then puts Patty on the phone to speak to them in English. This arrangement is working out well, because the girl knows how to put more money on the phone and does, which Patty hadn't figured out.

There is also, apparently, "Patty, photo!" which means Patty has lots of pictures of said bossy child wearing Patty's movie star sunglasses.

This lack of additional words to the demands does not seem to reflect the girl's ability with English so much as her pleasure in issuing commands.

This is sort of charming. I can see how it might get old, mind, but 12 year olds rocking movie star glasses might have a pretty good shelf life if said near-teenager is also useful.
