We had our first tech run today, after the cue-to-cue's of the last couple of days, and as these things generally are, it was special. I wasn't happy with my own performance (for the record, I am running lights and sound, not just calling them), but for someone who's never done this before probably did pretty damn well -- that however isn't the most relevant criteria in the world. Anyway, I open the theater at 9:30am tomorrow for actor call at 10; then we'll be working scenes and stuff and doing a run through at 2. Which is good, because I can get home at a decent hour, take a nap and do some work.

Currently, the goal is to do dishes, cook dinner, listen to the CD from the show some more to get a handle on cues and then watch Strictly Ballroom I think. It has a number of virtues including infecting my head with a song that isn't in HousePlage, encouraging good posture, not making me feel psychotically ambitious, and generally convincing me that the world is a better, more lovely, and smaller place than even I tend to believe, and I'm one hell of a romantic. Besides, most of the other movies I own are really depressing. For heaven's sake, I watched Velvet Goldmine the other night because I found it "soothing." That should tell you a lot about my current state of mind.

Also, I've joined up with the BitPlayers phenom, and I'm really excited about it. Acting practice, writing practice, possible reel material, possibly learning more about directing, possible connections, and possibly that moment of miraculous alchemy in which people have that "collaboration!" lightbulb and something actually evolves of it.

Oh, and funny story from rehearsal tonight -- During the bit where Mercutio is taunting Tybalt leading up to the whole fight and death business, the theater cat (named Cosmo) wandered on stage, so Mercutio picked him and and gestured at our own Prince of Cats with said cat on the "here's my fiddlestick that will make you dance!" line. It was damn funny.
