JT Leroy

Jan. 9th, 2006 12:25 am
I find the continuing saga of Who is JT Leroy really sad and confusing. Eventually, it's something I hope I can find a way to write eloquently about. As someone with a creative interest in matters of commerce, there is a great deal to be said about two women working together to create a literary and physical fictional identity, masquerading as true, in the form of a young, male prostitute. Fantasy or fame grab? Part of the art or outside of it?

The DVD edition I have of My Own Private Idaho contains an interview conducted by JT Leroy, whoever and however that may be. And it makes me sad while also being a strange and suitable footnote to that movie both in its content and surrounding mythology -- dead movie stars and people who never existed. Someone is supposed to argue about whether there is much difference there.

My Snakes on a Plane t-shirt arrived. I am embarassed to tell you how happy this makes me.

I hurt the fuck out of myself this morning lifting up my mattress and removing a cat from under it, as they are not supposed to be in my room when I am not here. the whole process scared teh crap out of her though, so maybe she'll stop trying to go under there.

GF and I are going to Candela tonight.

I have decided that even if I can't get the Chihuahua film done in time for Tropfest Tribecca, I'll do it anyway. People seem to like the idea to a degree that even I, the originator of it, find utterly irrational. Hell, I'll just submit it to FlickerFest instead or something.

I was frighteningly productive at work today, but since I 10-key for a living, this means my hands are very sore.

Enjoyed this article on kristen Scott Thomas, as she's someone I get told I look like probably more than any other celebrity (where celebrities are female and living. I get told I look like all sorts of famous, dead and frequently male folks, but while constantly entertaining, it's rarely useful). http://www.smh.com.au/news/film/face-for-elegant-misery/2006/01/08/1136655079500.html

Contact is on HBO right now. I find it to be a terribly upsetting film, not because I am a space nerd, although I am, but because so much of it is about the degree to which the convictions of women are treated as hysteria.
