sewing update
Yesterday I managed to cutout all the pieces for the dress (ETA: I lied, I have to cut the actual bodice, back and sides, I only cut the lining), which was a task both endless and exhausting. The white fabric, of which I am using fairly little, is completely evil, and intent on fraying. The yellow frabic is annoying because it has a pattern that has to be carefully matched up and centered on all the pieces, except the pattern nearly semetrical, but not actually so, and I don't think that's an intentional situation.
I've got the back and sides of the bodice pinned together, one sleeve (which was a huge nightmare) essentially completed, but not attached and am about halfway through the other one. Most of the sewing after this is easy (although endless and involves a pattern alteration I'm still trying to make a strategic decision on), and I fully believe I will be done in time, but oi. And I'm shooting a student film today so I don't now how much if any sewing will happen today (that said it looks gross out and we've outdoor shots, so it could conceivably get bagged for the day, which I wouldn't particularly mind - ETA: nope, I forget that clouds burn off and then I've been getting up early enough that they're always there i n the morning, looks fine now.).
Also booked my room for the event, which was more than anticipated and found a roommate (how is it that a Columbia kid is less worried about the room cost than I? don't answer that and I believe she's having her dress made at great expense, or so the rumour goes. She's a sweet kid though and I'm glad to room with someone relatively near my own age). The hotel, at least, has a pool, although it might muck with the spirit of the thing, if I go swimming in the dinner break between the Italian regiment under Napoleon reenactor and the actual ball. So maybe in the morning before we leave.
That said, it will be oddly nice to be in New Haven again. I've heard it's changed a lot, but I suspect it will still feel famiiar.
