If I have to be up at a certain time, for a certain thing, it's almost a guarantee I'll find the one piece of HP fanfic that's good, that I've not read, and stay up until 4am reading it.

Anyway, time to get ready for the Tipton audition, again, as this day has utterly run out of any room for procrastination.

ETA: In the shower just now I realized I use all these fabulous Villainess and LUSH soaps, BPAL perfumes, the weird herbal toothpaste stuff (it's not that vile, the mouthwash on the other hand could kill) the new dentist is on about -- and lame shampoo and conditioner for brown hair from the Duane Reade. Any excuse to give less money to Duane Reade is good -- so bathing beauties, what weird, obscure, probably small-business shampoos and conditioners do you use? Only specifications: herbal and citrus as opposed to fruity and floral, and something tha can condition the evil that is my hair to within an inch of its life (but preferrably isn't leave-in). Merci.

Also on the BPAL front: FYI Hell's Belle mixed with Smut = Mabon, althogh I suppose 1 LE + 1 GC = 1 LE isn't an equation that's going to solve anyone's problems.

Meanwile more credit agency problems ahoy. Or rather, I spoke to the collection agency about that Time Warner crap, they swore they had already sent out paper to me, nearly a week ago now which is still not received, AND now a threatening letter about a magazine subscription I've never heard of saying I requested it, and demanding payment before they report me to a credit agency. I'm feeling some shenanigans going on, and it's all a lot of letter writing I am not in the mood for.

I use (and this will make you laugh) Aussie (http://www.aussie.com/) hair products. As a rule, I use the daily 'Mega' shampoo and conditioners, but they also have deep conditioning treatments that are pretty awesome. The products smell gorgeous, too.

I've got a tube of Body Shop's 'Palmshine' deep conditioning mask, which is the best thing on earth for getting my hair to look good, but to my horror it's been discontinued in the UK and I spend hours scouring the Body Shop discontinued and reject stores for more of it. If you can find that in the States, it's well worth a try.

Costco Kirkland Salon Formula Shampoo and Conditioner.

The shampoo smells like pineapples, and the conditioner is amazing.

I have to use omg SO LITTLE of it because if I don't, my hair is a greaseball by 3pm.

I have fine, mostly straight hair, so I'd imagine if it's strong enough that I have to use minuscule amounts, it'll be good for a fiercer hair type than my own. ;)

And since it's from Costco, it's about $17 for the pair, and they're friggin' HUGE.

Long BPAL thread where most people proclaim their love of Lush hair care. I love the Aveda stuff, but hello, not always in my budget.

I need heavy gloppy conditioners because my hair is incredibly dry. So here's what's worked for me:

- I swear by Devacurl One Condition. It ain't cheap, but a little goes a long way. Herbal and kind of minty with, I think, some lemon verbena in there. They also have a line for redheads, brunettes, etc. and, in spite of what they say, it does deposit some color if you use it regularly. You can get this stuff at Ricky's but hey, the salon is right there in SoHo. For washing, their No-Poo/Low-Poo line of cleansing stuff has no detergents and is made for dry hair. My hair loves the No-Poo but my scalp freaks out from the oils, so all hail the Low-Poo. I know, the names. What can I say? The stuff works.

- Jessicurl Too Shea comes in a little pot and is heavy and gloppy and you can get Citrus Lavender, which is very clean/herbal. Island Fantasy scent is nice if you like coconut and have beach fantasies. They still don't have it on the East Coast so you'd have to do mail order. Once in a while if you're on the mailing list she does a $5 flat-rate shipping special which is terrific because the stuff is heavy. Oh, and the Hair Cleansing Cream comes in the same scents, also has no detergents, lathers some like a shampoo, and also smells divine. Worth a go. This is what I take when I'm traveling.

- I like Nature's Gate conditioners when I am broke. You can get 'em at WholeFoods pretty cheap for a chubby bottle. I used Tea Tree because of the aforementioned scalp malaise, but they have lots of fun thick herbal conditioners.

None of the aforementioned three conditioners have silicones, so if you wanted to leave some in before you blow dry they won't build up and make your hair all nasty and dull.

- I also used to use the Aussie Mega Conditioner, although its formula may have changed since I was, uh, in high school (and washed with Prell)

moshah sent me because I was talking about the Tipton audition and he mentioned he read about it in your lj) Did you get a chance to read? I was really interested in the highly diverse group of women who came out today, from women who really read (to me) as plausibly if not actually transgendered, to women who were very girly indeed.

Re. hair products, I will spare you the 10 or so brands ranging from low end to, that-was-enough-for-an-outfit, cost...what I find seems to work for me in this dry, wintery humidity is simply Aussie 'Knot Forgotton', which is a detangler. No conditioner before hand, just wash with any shampoo and then rinse with this. Maybe a little shine laminate afterwards, which helps keep things calm.

Avalon Organics - you can get it at Whole Foods. It makes my otherwise coarse hair feel pleasantly soft. I use the pepppermint kind.

Speaking of sundries... I have found a source of caster sugar...
