I'm part of a tribe that was once defined, in large part, by not having friends. My childhood was lonely. And this makes me smile. It's a different world.

I know precisely what you mean - I think that part of this is the combination of growing up as outcasts and only children that we both share.

However, I also read your posts and see that you have managed to be more daring that I ever have, perhaps because once I became a social being, my ambitions rarely went beyond finding a small circle of wonderful people and caring for them, and yours are rather more impressive.

On a perhaps related note, I'm now most of the way through Cyteen (amidst reading various other shorter works simultaneously) and there is something about the language of Ariane Emory (especially the older one, when she is giving advice to her younger self) that reminds me of you. While I can see this being taken as a rather dire statement, it very much is not.
