quick and dirty sundry

I never really got around to making a real post yesterday/today.

So, in short:

Gluten free pasta! At a restaurant! It was good! I felt really sick when I came home, but it seemed to be psychological as a result of eating things I couldn't tell were gluten-free. Once I talked myself down, I was fine.

Hpslasher meetup! Really cool, although I had forgotten how much big groups are hard for me to navigate when everything is melow and equal status. I had fun. Just mostly quietly. OUt of context hilarity for the evening (and there was much): "Snape got raped by a dolphin!" No, I don't know. I'd be scarred for life, but I'm too tired.

My BPAL arrived. My first two bottle re-orders ever. Whiechapel and Les Infortunes. Two little bottles of wizardly goodness. I hug them. No, really.

I've finished one of the two monumental writing tasks I need to complete by Thursday. It came out even better than I thought/hoped. Now to get the other done, probably all in one vicious swoop Wednesday night (since I am working tomorrow night).

Who does Les Infortunes smell like? I've never smelled that one.

Leather. A little bit of orang and vanilla. Spices. Oddly light for all that. It's our scent for Descensus Snape and what I wear most days now. I'll bring it next I see you (I am, btw, getting to your emails -- this is a hellish week for me, but I'm trying to catch up).

Despite really liking Whitechapel, it's taken on an unfortunate association in my mind because of the time period when I was wearing it often and I haven't been able to wear it since. I think I'll probably give it to you, since you'll actually enjoy it. If you have an imp of it, or an imp bottle you can refill with it to trade me, I would appreciate it, since I don't want to get rid of it entirely.

My Lucius smells faintly of mint, and Pain was perfect for that, but it fades extremely fast on my skin. The Bermuda Perfumery has a cedar, bergamot, rosemary, juniper scent that I am considering buying. It would be perfect for [him] and as such, likely end up helplessly blurred over with my Snape in my mind. They also have a bergamot, mandarin, and lime that also sounds tempting. I wish they sold samples.

The Bergamot, Mandarin and Lime sounds like something I've seen at a few men's cologne counters lately. I have lots of decanting supplies, so I'd be happy to do that for you with the Whitechapel, and I have some other things you might like that I could also decant in exchange. As I have a BPAL box now, perhaps I should bring that for show and tell once we make plans.

That sounds nice. We have a huge wad of imps that I would be happy to bring for smelling, as well. Email me when you have a free evening; my calendar is generally open.

Oh, yay for pasta!

Twice this last month, I've had the chance to eat sushi rolls made with soy paper instead of seaweed, which I am allergic to. It took practice. My throat still instinctively tries to close up, "knowing" I'm allergic to that stuff. It was weird and difficult for something so yummy.

Oh, and I've found corn pasta to be a completely satisfying substitute after eating it three times. I'm sure I could tell the difference if I tasted one and then the other, but without a comparison on hand, my memory does not present any complaints.

I've been eating a lot of soup lately. I'm glad it's not too hot for that.

Thank you for telling me. I've felt insane that I'm having a reaction to something I didn't eat (it happened again just now).

It did feel pretty insane. I was wondering if I'd developed an allergy to something else, but was able to pinpoint it to the sushi rolls - and yet I could eat the rice and same fish outside a roll and was fine. Our bodies learn what's bad for us. Hopefully they can be re-trained, but if the symptoms are mild, I'm okay with a little warning.
