Tonks is my favorite character in the entire HP universe.
I have a five and a half page essay about why the popular fandom opinion of her is incorrect, but it's been sitting on my hard drive since about May.
My basic thesis is that a)Tonks is the only female character women in their mid-20s can identify with in a current fashion. (ie, Hermione was them as a kid, but not now. McGonagall is them later in life, but not now, etc.)
b)Tonks had a severe amount of stress and trauma, and Remus "rejecting" her was probably the last straw.
and c)How well do you think YOU would fare under such circumstances, hmmmm?
Calling Tonks weak because she was upset by love being offered and then rescinded is the most annoying and ignorant sentiment I've heard in a long, long time. It's not "ZOMG SHE LOST HER POWRZ COS OF A MAN," it's, "She went through a terrifying and stressful period of time, and the person she'd started to depend on took himself out of the equation. Gender irrelevent."
