It pleases me that you feel that same way about Lars von Trier. My only exposure to his work was when I watched the (monumentally long) first part of The Kingdom and was filled with a mixture of boredom and disgust. I didn't see as much misogyny in The Kingdom as you mentioned in Dogville (although there was some), mostly he just seemed to take great pleasure in loathing all of humanity. Many people I know love his films, but I have absolutely no idea why. His name is now on my "avoid at all costs list", right next to Adam Sandler and Jerry Lewis (albeit for different reasons).
