I just Did the Right Thing as regards something financial between a company and I (they overpaid me), and when I called to let them know, they were unbelievably confused by my honesty. That said, I have increasing numbers of long-term ongoing writing assignments from them, and I'd rather do that than keep this windfall but ultimately make less money in the long run were I to get busted on their error. In other words, it was a pragmatic decision, something which seemed to confuse them even more than my honesty. I'm amused.

I continue to read Fall of the Kings, and I think now understand why everytime I say to my friends, "Actually, I have a lot of compassion for Theron" they say, "Well, sure, but he's such a little idiot." Because wow, he is such a little idiot!

Ech. I had to do that recently and my boss was also sort of boggled. I tried to explain to him that I didn't want to get caught out in dishonesty (operative phrase here being "didn't want to get caught") but he still didn't seem to get it.

I do feel bad for Theron, I just don't like him as much as Richard and Alec. I'm much more sympathetic to him than to Basil, who I really dislike- though not full-force until the end of the book.
