The thing that infuriates me about Ann Coulter isn't that she's a bigot or supports our absolutely wackadoodle administration. It's that everytime she utters something utterly inane and actually get's called on it, she flutters her lashes and does a "l'il-ol'-me?" routine. So not only does she insult the targets of her words, she then follows that up with insulting everyone's intelligence by not really owning what she says, which doesn't even _begin_ to address the way she insults women via her mode.

Date: 2007-03-04 05:46 pm (UTC)In a sense Ann is the heir of the early ant-feminists who were happy to tell others that their place was in the home, thank you-while they were out earning advanced degrees and managing large non-profit organizations, themselves.
As far as I'm concerned AC can either grow a set and stand behind what she says, grow a set and admit she was out of line, or STFU. I'm not particular as to which

Date: 2007-03-07 11:45 pm (UTC)It's how the bilious rhetoric she spews works its way into the minds of the public at large.
If she owned them, said, "I meant it" rather than her, "I'm doing humor" schtick, then she'd have to be either repudiated by the people who have been making her rich, or they would have to publically own the things she says.
And they can't do that, it's part of how they keep the middle. The base agrees, and the top doesn't care (because all that is for the masses, they do what they like amongst themselves, though the black, and the gay, and the strong woman can all forget about being let sit at the table, they are to be content with being allowed to look in the room (David Dreier isn't minority leader, and he wasn't Speaker after DeLay, though he's carried more water than most... and Ken Mehlman isn't going to be let out of the RNC).
She lets them have it both ways, and that's what she, and they want.
So no, she (and Limbaugh, Savage, Schlessinger, Prager, Reynolds and all the rest) will never stand up for what they believe, because they believe that will cost them the power that not-really, saying it gets.
Which is why I hate her, and those like her.
