(no subject)

I'm working on a website for someone right now and I just need to take a moment to rejoice in the fact that Photoshop is about 800 times less fucked up than when I made my website.

Photoshop is evil. Evil like an evil thing. We have a very testy relationship, PS and I...

Mmmm, photoshop. I have no idea what 75% of the tools do, but it's still awesome.

Meanwhile, HTML is driving me out of my mind. I'm really not sure how many times one has to say border equals goddamn zero to make it so.

[identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com 2007-05-09 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. I'm actually kind of glad that I no longer maintain a website, because the amount of fucking time it would take me to do the simplest style change was unbelievable. HTML makes everything so much more complicated than it should be.

The thing is, I'm sure I'm doing this right. Bt i remember hitting the same stupid problem when I designed my own website, and I can't remember how I solved it. I suppose I should go dig through my own source code. I'd google for help, but google seems to be down. The rapture of the google strikes me as nearly as serious as the rapture of the bees.

[identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com 2007-05-09 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Google is down? Woah. I didn't know that was possible! My world is overturned. This is totally a sign of the end times.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2007-05-09 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Well it might be working for other people but I can't get to it, and everything else seems to be working.

It's clearly going to be one of those weeks.

[identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com 2007-05-09 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
That sucks. You have been having a pretty bad few days. But hey: fencing tonight! Hopefully that will be better.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2007-05-09 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, my website is down too!

I should just start laughing right?

[identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com 2007-05-09 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, man, that's terrible. *pets* I think at this point I'd take a break and go eat chocolate.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2007-05-09 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
One imagines if you were here, that's what I'd be doing isntead anyway.

Fie on Internets.

[identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com 2007-05-09 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm, yes. And that would be much more pleasant than coding.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2007-05-09 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Heavens yes.

I'm about to head off to "work" (in quotes until they have money for me) which should at least help me clear my head to look at this with fresh eyes later, but at least I solved lots of it.

You got anything exciting planned for your day?

[identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com 2007-05-09 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
You'll have to tell me what this new work drama is all about, though later if you're leaving now.

Not terribly exciting: shopping for Cyprus supplies, and then going to visit my baby cousins (the 8-year-old left a message on our answering machine last night, which was possibly the cutest thing of all time).

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2007-05-09 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
pick-axes and small children are such a lovely combination. They must think you're all terribly glamorous and Indiana Jones-like.

I'll send you a long rant about the work thing when I get there. It's not like I'll feel like doing anything under the circumstances.

[identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com 2007-05-09 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they're currently far more amused that I'll play hide-and-seek with them than anything more complicated. I bet they'd be really impressed if I made dolls.

Alright. I quite approve of such a use of work's computers.

[identity profile] drfardook.livejournal.com 2007-05-09 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Post the source here (or a link to the page) and I might be able to spot the problem.

If it makes you feel any better I've been doing web development for nearly a decade now and it still makes me ask why I couldn't have listened to my father and gone to art school instead of studying something useful.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2007-05-09 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually just found the problem. I always forget about cellpadding in addition to border.

That's why they make PhotoShop Elements.

The tools you don't need stripped out, helpful step-by-step wizards to do common tasks, and you can pick up a copy for $30 instead of $500.

It's really odd that so many people insist on using the full Photoshop and flailing around, rather than using Elements.

I think that must be why Apple use different names for their pro and regular applications; if they called Final Cut Pro "iMovie Pro", everyone would think they needed it, and they'd rant about how they couldn't even work out how to edit a simple video movie.
