Being a plane geek, who never got to travel in one, but held it up as one of her great aspirations as a young child, this makes me very sad:

I read about that on the BBC website a few days ago. It's sad. I mean, I guess it was the "practical" thing to do, but it's still sad. The idea of travelling at the speed of sound is just plain cool.

Definitely, I'd have loved to travel in one. Then again, I've seen several proposals for hypersonic transpacific planes, with luck someone will build them and I'll eventually be able to ride in one.

As much as I ( now ) hate flying, I had a similar dream. Call it the latent Bond in me.

This is not the future I signed up for.
