grrr

I have finally decided where Patty and I should go for Restaurant Week shortly after her return. Of course, the stupid online system one has to reserve through keeps telling me that restaurant doesn't take reservations that far in advance.

Grrrr.

what is this restaurant week of which you speak?

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
$35 prixe fix dinners ($24.07) for lunch at some of NYC's finest restaurants. It happens to be on right when she gets back.

cool. good luck with the reservations!

Thnx. These are by and large places that are unaffordable for us otherwise. I had a real hemming and hawing time about which one to choose (between food issues and my ambiance fixations), and of course, finally having made a decision -- grrrr.

totally off topic, but I have a question for a native NYkr. Any idea why most of the house numbers in Queens have a dash in the house number... 88-14 214th St. for example?

This keeps coming up at work and I'm curious.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
No idea, but it is very, very common. I assume it's something like "the 14th house on the 88th block of 214th street", but that's a guess.

I can tell you. The number before the dash represents the cross avenue to the street number. 88-14 would be at the corner of 88th Drive/Avenue/Road and 214th Street. The 14 would be the ordinary building number.

ah, thank you. Well, at least if I ever get up that way again I can navigate. hehe.

Elmont was not so strange with house numbers when I lived there.

ah..now that makes sense. Almost better than zip codes, too.

Thanks!

I assume the "one has to reserve through" bit means that you can't get the Restaurant Week price rate unless you make your reservation through the website? You might try calling the restaurant anyway and see if they'll accommodate you.

'cause that's likely to be less aggravating than calling tech support for the website.

All assumptions correct. I'll just have to keep trying back for when it's in their zone. A lot of places won't take reservations more than a month out, and this would be still. So I'll just have to keep an eye on it.

yeah, I'm going to the second week of because the first week I'll be at the Launchpad workshop. But none of the restaurants I'm going to are accepting reservations for the second week yet. grr.

You should try calling the restaurants, though. sometimes an actual person can reserve a few days ahead.

Thank you. This is reassuring.
