- It is hot.

- Athienou has email! Which is almost weird, as I've gotten so into the habbit of this letter writing thing. But what a nice relief.

- I am starting to think it is not realistic for me to [livejournal.com profile] novel_in_90 on fencing nights. The scene I have to write next is very long though, so I may manage to make up the word count there. Either way, I'm having a good poductive week and am past the 30% mark.

- My finger is bleeding.

- Despite the fact I will not subject myself to the Scholastic HP street fair the day the last book is released, OMG, giant animatronic Whomping Willow! Hey everyone, it's all over now, get hit by a tree!

- Paris Hilton: still not news. Who JibJab is making fun of: definitely not news.

- More than half the people polled think homosexulity is genetic? I realize this is suppose to be a big, exciting, "folks are becoming less hateful" thing, but you know what? everyone is pretty sure you can't change the color of your skin and that never stopped folks from being racist. I'm not sure why I'm supposed to be excited.

- Argh! Random noises make a lot of things better.

- Maple candy.

- Work and work and heavy stuff to schlepp today.

- Tractors with jet engines and other Americana I don't understand: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/28/us/28tractor.html

- Finally, the Terminus call for papers opens this weekend. And while one of my proposals hinges on the events of the final book (those who came to "Daddy, I Want to be a Death Eater" and heard me go off about collaborators, know of what I speak), the most insane of the proposals, "A Fictional History of Duelling" doesn't, and, as such, I should try to write that up shortly. I will also resubmit the improv workshop from PR, since people liked it so much (although cutting it down to 1.5 hours from 2, since everyone had a better grasp of things than I originally suspected they would).

It never stopped folks from being racist, but imagine how much more annoying racists would be if they thought the people they hated were doing it on purpose.
It's a small step, but it's a step.

To the disgust of the pro-choice factions, the main queer activist groups have been pushing the "it's not our fault, it's genetic" argument for the last fifteen years, because repeated surveys showed that people were more likely to vote for queer rights and not bash queers into the sidewalk if the queers "couldn't help it". This despite the lack of genetic evidence. It's a purely political move. It was also deemed the best way to fight attempts to "cure" queers. (Of course this leaves bisexuals and transfolks out in the cold.)

Of course, now we have gene therapy, so the politician queers have switched to "It's genetic *and* environmental, but can't be helped, still not our fault - but you can't cure us either, and no we don't want to be cured, thanks."

So having them believe it's genetic means we may get bashed less and we might eventually get rights laws and marriage rights. So it's good - if repugnant.
