two very petty complaints

- My hair is a giant cloud of frizz. I HATE THIS FUCKING HUMIDITY.

- I'm really bruised from fencing yesterday, which interests me because this never used to happen. I suppose people are going for it more with me, and I against them. Because hello dime and quarter sized marks on my stomach and left hip and arm.

It is humid here too, today! And I also hate it. Nasty weather.

And aww, bruises.

r u getting enough iron? sometimes bruising is worse for anemics.

Where do you fence? I used to take classes at Martinez Academy, but no time lately...

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
That's where I fence.

Cool, will you be at the Grand Assault?

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. I'll be a judge, actually. Are you competing?

[identity profile] hey-its-dave.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, just a spectator, it'll be good to see you though, been a while.

I'm contemplating starting up again next year, I'll have more time after January-ish.

Okay, this is where I feel like a dick -- you mailed me and I forgot to mail you back, but I am terrible at placing people and names (especially withthe multiple identities of the Internet) what's the context of us knowing each other?

[identity profile] hey-its-dave.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, that's ok, we met through Marrus about... geez, I think it was pre 9-11... walking around downtown in the summer, and hung out a few times after that.

I'm terrible about mailing people back myself, so, no worries :)

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! Oh! Cool. I was worried you were someone else from a different past and that was entirely not going to be okay. But hi!

[identity profile] hey-its-dave.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool, hi!

BTW, I like Sharp's "guck in a puck" pomade, not greasy, water soluble and reactivates when you wet it again:

[identity profile] schpahky.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you put stuff in your hair?

[identity profile] schpahky.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
A little pomade may be your friend, and most gentlemanly.

I've yet to find anything that will control my hair that isn't utterly vile to the touch. Which again, makes for accidentally hilarious topic #893548935 this week.

[identity profile] schpahky.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Vile to touch in your hand, or once it's on your hair?

Pomade does stay greasy. And one tiny dab too much and you're screwed.

I am very concerned with people's hair. Including yours.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Both, either.
Oh, man, the fucking hilarity.

Since I cut my hair I've been using Louis Licari's Molding Creme, after the hair is dry. It feels differently in the hand as you use it up, by which I mean at first it's hard to dig out of the container but that gets better. Then, when you rub the hands together it feels tacky, like very thick glue might, then it goes on the hair like glue, but is dry and does not start or stay greasy.

It has its vile points, but is not a grease. And seems to hold down the humidity "bush" factor to some degree.

What lighting did you use to get the grey to show up in your hair in that photo? Mine looks much the same and I can't get it to come out right!

This is a pathetic story. My computer was facing south in front of a window. There was south indirect light coming in. I had my cheap ($40) Wal-Mart camera on top of the monitor. I snapped using my cheap Wal-Mart picture software. For some reason it focused me sharply and left the rest of the room in black.

Best of luck replicating these conditions. It could probably be done in Photoshop by masking the head and filling outside with black, using indirect natural light.

Also, sadly, my hair isn't this color anymore. The pic is from a couple of years ago. The hair is now pretty much whote on top, with darker color on the lower layers, and somewhat short. It got all destroyed from the years of blow-drying to straighten and shine it.

Le sigh. Once again, good luck with the photo.
