Top Court in Massachusetts Says State Can't Deny Gays the Right to Marry


Get ready for the backlash. This is not going to be pretty. At all. In fact, the contortions we're about to go through as a nation (when I'd really like someone to be fixing the goddamn economy please) are going to be astounding. This will launch a serious drive for a constitutional ammendment, and do totally weird things to the presidential race. Like I needed to be more frustrated with either American politics or livejournal. I have a feeling both are going to make me cringe a lot in light of this, which isn't to say I'm not thrilled by this critical step in the right direction, but I spent my freshman year of college at Act Up protests and sitting in emergency rooms with friends who got bashed, so I'm wary, and I wonder how ready people are for how ugly this is going to get.

Me too, but then I think of the progress we've made, in the face of astounding obstacles, and remember that since that night where the people of Stonewall reclaimed their lives, we've shown strength, courage and a determination beyond our adversaries. Courage, and hope.
