cheap airfare?

I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

Anyone got any tips for finding a cheap (cheap!) last minute flight between NYC and SFO for about a week from now short of family death or dumb luck?

Haha, oh, you are evil.

Randomly: did you see Billy Crudup got cast in for a Watchmen movie?

No! AWESOME!

My current theory is to watch spiritair like a hawk and pray. Although spirit air seems like just an awesome thing in general for us to go somewhere random and absurd at some point.

Hee.

That's awesome. I hadn't heard of Spirit air before.

I suppose you don't know any airpine employees?

Southwest is just starting or about to start to fly into SFO, and might have deals. Virgin America has also just started business and is flying JFK-SFO.

I usually take JetBlue for that route and their prices are tolerable. Neither JetBlue or Southwest list prices on things like Expedia, so check their sites directly.

Oakland is our Newark; you can subway in/across to SF and SFO from OAK, so check that as well if that helps. OAK charges lower fees and is often cheaper as a result.

Does it have to be direct, or a transfer is OK?

Transfer okay. Virgin is sold out (it's what I'm flying). Yes, I'm trying to smuggle Patty along on the trip from hell.

Yay smuggling!

damnit, Jet Blue has a great deal for the week after... will keep eyes peeled. good luck!

The cheapest thing 've found so far is about $320, and when you add all th taxes and crap to it that's close to $400. I know these days that's good, but I feel like with a little luck we could actually find a bargain and do this.

[identity profile] schpahky.livejournal.com 2007-08-09 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
lastminute.com comes up with $383 as its lowest feat. I suppose that's not cheap enough.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2007-08-09 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think so. So far I've found one that's 320, which starts to get in range of the insanity.

http://kayak.com has The Best Interface Ever, and it searches many (most?) of the 'cheap tickets' sites. Doesn't search SouthWest, though.

Sites it searches:
AA.com
airtran.com
alaskaair.com
cheaptickets.com
continental.com
frontierairlines.com
jetblue.com
midwestairlines.com
nwa.com
orbitz.com
spiritair.com
united.com

So if you've already checked all of those, don't bother with Kayak. :)

(cutting in) Wow! Great site! *bookmarks*

The new Virgin America seems to have very good rates, but I don't know what kind of advance purchase they require.
