My bookshelf dedicated to books whose authors I know personally needed this exact hint of weirdness. (You'll be in company with [livejournal.com profile] rezendi, a Carol Queen erotic novel which had a review blurb by me on the back in one printing, "The Lazy Crossdresser" ditto, and... jeez, I have actually forgotten what else.
