I know they, among other things, munged the timeline all to hell in E: TGA, however, I've got an idea niggling at me that may be of more use than entertaining myself on the Internet. To that end, can anyone recommend a good biography of Elizabeth and/or Raleigh. I have some B&N gift cards burning a hole in my pocket and a nefarious plan.

Chris Hilbert did 'The Virgin Queen' I read it my freshman year in college. It flows well and had a ton of citations I used for more reading.

Elizabeth I by Jasper Ridley
The First Elizabeth - Carrolly Erickson

I can't recommend anything for Raleigh, but I thought I might add a few more if you're really interested in some serious background:

Elizabeth I and her Parliament J.E. Neale (this comes in two volumns)
The Sayings of Qeen Elizabeth - Frederick Chamberlain
The England of Elizabeth - A.L. Rowse

And for fun:
John Dee - Peter French

I have no idea how many of these may be out of print by now, since they come from my own collection.

I have an off-topic question. My best friend just found out her husband has a kidney problem and he will have to be gluten-free in his eating. You're the smartest person I know on the subject. Is there any book or resource that you have found most helpful that I can pass along to her? Thanks!

Any of the various celiac foundation websites can give you a good list of food/food ingredients that one has to avoid. The ones that surprise most peopel are undistilled white vinegar (distilled is fine), most soy sauce (GF varieties are available) and the additive modified food starch.

As to GF products, that's trial and error, although I would recommend pretty much everything Glutino makes as well as Foods by George. I can vouch for all online recipes from Babycakes, as I get my sweets from there regularly.

Thanks. He has IGA Nephropathy, but I will point her to the celiac sites. Thanks for the info about the brands.
