- Okay, the book really hasn't been pushed up. Still November 28. They getting the Amazon.com and South African online bookstore to fix it now. Which means I still get my galleys. Also, they are trying to get me a cover quote from Draco & the Malfoys.

- Apparently, the way surgery works is they call my mom the afternoon before to tell her when surgery is. So then she'll cal me, and she wants me to go sit with my father at the hospital during that. It may be as early as 5am. She decided against reconstruction and it should all take about 2 - 2.5 hours. If it's in the morning, I've already explained to her and she's agreed that I'm going to _need_ to go to fencing that night.

- Patty and I have gleefully reached the end of the hell part of our week. Tonight: barn dance!

- I am now only buying the catfood sealed in plastic bags because the last two box puchases of different types from different stores contained bugs. I'm very irritated.

- I have come to a conclusion from browsing titles on Raleigh at Amazon and B&N -- everyone who has ever written about him is either a completely insane wanker (not in a charming way) or is writing for fifth graders.

-- I am wearing BPAL's Les Infortunes today. Why don't I remember to wear BPAL every day? Ahhhh.

Hi, I'm Lars. I wandered over here because someone mentioned that you're an HP fan with Celiac's Disease. I liked your bio, and I got diagnosed with Celiac's a few months ago, so I'm always looking for tricks and tips. ^_^

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
OH welcome! I'm sorry to hear about your celiac, because it's the most annoying thing ever, as I'm sure you've realized, but I do like talking about it. If you haven't discovered the wonder of pretty much everything Glutino makes, check them out. They're the only products that I consistently like.

[identity profile] ygrane.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I love glutino's pizza and pizza crusts, but I've learned to make pretty much everything else for myself, I'm just happier with the results. We made blueberry poundcake last night, and while the texture turned out more muffin-y than poundcake-like, it was really tasty, and had excellent crumb texture.

BTW, I need to write them about this, but I thought I'd mention it here and see if anyone else has had this problem. Several GF Bob's Red Mill products we've gotten recently have tasted strongly of aluminum, and we've had to throw them out. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm about to give up on the brand itself, which is a shame.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never used that brand, but I've heard other complaints about their stuff, infestations and the like.

[identity profile] ygrane.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, ew. Well, I can't have that. GF products are too expensive to fool around with ones that are in dubious condition. Oh well, there are others to choose from. I'm liking Pamela's Baking Mix right now.

I've been really into Cherrybrook Farm's sugar cookies lately and Whole Foods has a line of Everyday Value GF mixes right now that are actually affordable.

[identity profile] ygrane.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooo, I'll pick those up next time I'm out. Our Wild Oats is in process of converting to Whole Foods, so maybe we'll get the Everyday Value brand soon.

aluminum has the ability to leech through plastic. I buy their garfava flour and a couple others and have not noticed a problem. I would guess it is a storage issue with either the supplier or the particular store you may have purchased it at.

[identity profile] ygrane.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'll ask the store manager about it and send an email to BRM and see if they can figure out what happened. I haven't had any trouble with the garfava flour, the bread mix, or the hot cereal, but all of the baking mixes have given us trouble.

[identity profile] beemerbike.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
were the flours you noticed this in new to you or had you purchased them before? I know that a metal taste in the mouth can sometimes be do to a vitamin deficiency also, so it can come and go depending on what you are eating.

Blueberry poundcake? That sounds delicious. Have you a recipe to share?

[identity profile] raaven.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I, too, forget to wear BPAL everyday. Then, when I open my BPAL box, I'm hard-pressed not to wear several of them at once. *sigh*

i'd love to order your book, but i really can't justify the expense at the mo'.. my credit cards are all maxed out, and i am trying to run this god foresaken rescue.. i had a good interview today so i'm hoping i'll have some money soon

I'm wearing Dove's Heart today. I anticipate, with the depressing week I've had, that I'll need a bottle of it soon.
