A young teenager kills herself after her online boyfriend turns on her. But the boyfriend wasn't real; rather he was the product of the parents of a girl the suicide used to be friends with.

As I said in the comments on karnythia's journal, this has me close to tears because it confirms every terrible thing I've ever thought about childhood, parents and popularity.

I suspect that what they did was already illegal

as I think it would qualify as stalking and harassment.
One problem we have though is that many states have very different ways of interpreting and enforcing this.

At the very least, they'd have grounds to sue for "intentional infliction of emotional distress".
