I stayed out way too late last night seeing Beowulf in 3D.
It was bad and the 3D gave me a headache and wasn't that cool. The amount of hours that clearly went into "and now what object can we place here to make sure no one can see Beowulf's cock" was just staggering.
To try to critique anythign about the film would acknowledge it was actually a film, so there's not a lot of sense in ranting about costumes, accents, acting, or John Malkovich.
I mean, I laughed my ass off. But not in the way I was supposed to.
More crankiness at Beowulf Thoughts

Date: 2007-11-22 09:15 pm (UTC)People are thinking the film is supposed to be taken seriously, I don't think Zemekis' means for any of it to be taken seriously at all. If you thought something was ridiculous, it was supposed to be.
That's just my opinion and how I viewed what they were going for though.
I seem to be one of the few people who seemed to enjoy the film and liked most of what they seemed to go for.
It's possible seeing it in IMAX helped. As one of my biggest critiques (and none of them being the story, dialogue, or acting... I LIKED the new story and twists and found everyone but Jolie to kick ass) is that on a home screen that isn't a HDTV 64inch flat screen this movie just won't make an impact. It's a lot of visual fun and stupidity and the acting and story while enjoyable, with the way the film was shot and so much of the camera choices being dependent on the 3D to work, home viewing will fail and in this day and age that's no good. Back in the 70s before VHS though, Beowulf would be the best film ever.
