The New York Times reviews Atonement - http://movies.nytimes.com/2007/12/07/movies/07aton.html?8dpc - and I must say I can't disagree more. That tracking shot almost killed me.

A.O.Scott has a soul made of lead I think. I almost always disagree with his reviews. I'm very interested in seeing this film whatever he says.

S/he is right in that when the film switches out of the domestic horror of the 1930s opening that it does stutter because you don't know at first why this has happened, but it utterly recovers itself.
