What the hell? I imagine these are the same people who wanted to kill off the cherry-headed conures in San Francisco and who are constantly after the geese and the monk parakeets. Grrr. Let the swans be.
I saw the film about the telegraph hill conure flock and did a bit of research as I'm from CA originally and had seen a similar flock in San Clemente when I was in high school. The parrots don't disturb native species and only inhabit trees brought in for landscaping. From the Times article it sounds like the swans are aggressive and do have an significant impact on the native environment so I can understand why they want their population reduced.
Sure, welcome! I friend most people back as long as they aren't all memes or embroiled in an obscure hobby of mine I gossip a lot about in my journal and haven't filtered yet (which I need to so I can friend a few people).
Huh. And with the title about the swan menace, I expected an article about how they're vicious, nasty, and attack people. (Which is true -- there were a pair of swans on the lake at a local university where I grew up and you would occasionally hear about people running from swans. I tend to blame stupid college students for that though -- swans will attack if you get too close and they feel threatened, but will otherwise ignore you.)
