2007/2008 briefly
Jan. 1st, 2008 10:09 pmIt seems really past the point of recapping 2007. A lot happened. I was often off balance. That was largely good.
I did publish a book, but I didn't finish my novel. The novel isn't a toxic cloud of emotional angst, but it is a cloud of emotional angst for me. I've learnt a lot more about the characters, the world, the structure and the point of the thing this year. I've even written a good chunk of it -- some of it actually quite excellent, but I still need to stop being afraid of it.
This year I will publish another book, because that's what my contract says, but I really really need to finish my novel, and also start the orig!fic project that Kali and I have been mapping and not writing.
Other stuff like acting and fencing and grad school is all obvious or recently posted about.
Today Patty and I hung out at the mall. It was like the awesomest high school date ever. We went to Hot Topic, where I bought a Slytherin hoodie, and played skeeball and Deal or No Deal video games at this video game palace thing, and I won us lots of tickets so we get a bunch of giant pixie sticks. We ate at P.F. Chang's which has a gluten free menu and so I was able to have Chinese food. I was constantly ecstatic. I rock at skeeball, you know. There are of course more funny pictures.
Then we saw Charlie Wilson's War which was emotionally evocative in ways that really surprised me. There's a lot of background nuance about interpersonal relationships that I found quite gripping, perhaps because all of the players involved are portrayed as such performative people in their very lives and that, and the costs of that along with the sincerity of that, really spoke to me. Ah, Sorkin.
