It's not hateful, but now I'm pissed that I've missed my chances to see it. I don't care what anyone else says; I loved the musical from the moment I heard it -- it was the soundtrack to my melodramatic late teens and early 20s, and I will still sing it, beginning to end, if given the chance.
I saw it once. sound was terrible and not being familiar with the story, it was totallly confusing to me. Made me regret going. In town long enough to see one show and I left feeling totally ripped off.
Man, that was what a group of my friend freshman year of high school were obsessed with. When I had to be in that awful Miss Lake Brantley Pageant, I did "Over The Moon."
not hateful at all...the closing is long overdue (although I support any show that employs that many people). it was a flawed script that never got fixed. but hey, can I really criticize anything that exposes the masses to live theatre?
Hee, you're not the only one. I was fortunate enough to have seen it twice -- on free tickets both times. First time I couldn't follow the story and it didn't impress me much. Second time, though, I had already known most of the songs by heart, it was the original Mark and Roger (plus an adorable Angel), and I had second row seats -- needless to say, the experience was much better.
I'll miss it -- but won't be sad to see it close. It's time, I think.
I would only consider it hateful if you were secretly glad that all the cast and crew now had to find new work. I suspect, though, that you're over the musical and over people talking about the musical all the time. Good guess?
One thing I will miss about it, though: it spoke about a Manhattan I grew up in that no longer exists, and that few people I know now are aware of, because most of them are transplants.
I love the songs, but you really do get tired of hearing them after a while.
And I agree with what someone else said; the ending was rather lame. Mimi should've totally died.
Of course, I've only seen the movie...And I tend not to believe in paying $500 for a ticket to a show where I'll probably get kicked out if I sing along with the songs. For $500 a ticket, I better be able to sing along, dammit! I sing on key, I'm a good singer! I'm not confident enough to get on a stage and sing, and I certainly won't win American Idol, but I won't be one of the first to get booted off, either. And I have purposely left out the transportation money, the money for a hotel, etc. etc. etc (I live about 8 hours away, unless my parents lied to me).
