I am finally getting on the Torchwood bandwagon.

Season 1, Episode 1: bad, but the first episode of every show is bad. Like Jack's coat, love Ianto's suit, hey, they just killed Indira Varma.

Season 1, Episode 2: a sex parasite? Oi. On the other hand, I can see how this might just turn into the best trash on television. Oh hey, girls kissing that doesn't involve soft lighting and lame emotional content. Okay, so it involves a sex parasite, but still!

I love Torchwood, but I'm v. aware of its myriad flaws.

"Cyberwoman" will, almost certainly, have you hurling stuff at the screen and/or flat on your back with laughter. Possibly both.

However, there are eps that are worth the wait - "Countrycide" (badly flawed, still, but more amusing that "Cyberwoman"), "They Keep Killing Suzie" and "Random Shoes" spring to mind.

For what it's worth, the first eps of season 2 made up for a LOT of season 1. ;)

Agreed about season 2, I'm loving it. Season 1 was impressively uneven, but I'm loving this season, especially since we have 2 episodes written by Catherine Tregenna coming up.

As for bad, nothing topped the finale for me (although Cyberwoman did give it a good try). OTOH, I also loved "They Keep Killing Suzie" and "Random Shoes", I also really liked "Captain Jack Harkness", and I thought "Out of Time" was one of perhaps the 2 or 3 best Doctor Who related things I've ever seen, and one of the better TV shows I've ever seen.

Y'know, I would have liked "Out of Time" much more (and that's not to say I didn't like it, I just would have liked it more) if it didn't feature the least romantic love scene, evar - or so it struck me as being.

But the general story of the eps, overall? Liked it a lot. :)

And I just caved in re: my DLing rule and watched Torchwood 2x02 - much better than I expected from the preview, actually. I expect to cave in re: 2x03, shortly... ;)

the second season so far promises to be much better than the first. The first was kind of catch and miss. Cyberwoman was by far the worst.

An episode I particularly liked was Out of Time. Again, it wasn't perfect, and there was some painfully shlocky writing, but there were also some emotionally powerful moments in it. (for me anyway)

I'll avoid all spoilers, but season 1 has some really bad episodes (as well as some impressively excellent ones). OTOH, Season 2 looks to be very good indeed. Impressively, the first ep of season 2 was written by Chris Chibnall (the writer for all but one of the bad Season 1 episodes) and it was very good.

Here are my ratings (by episode number):

Season 1
1 Good
2 OK
3 Good
4 Very Bad
5 Pointless, Stupid and Bad
6 Bad
7 Good
8 Excellent
9 Excellent
10 Amazingly Excellent (I've watched it 4 times)
11 OK
12 Very Good
13 Eye-Bleedingly Bad

Season 2
1 Very Good
2 Very Good
3 Good

I'll second exactly what heron61 says of the eps so far. If you like sex parasites, you're in for a treat with many of the episodes.

The producer, remember, did the original Queer as Folk in the UK. His description of Capt. Jack was he is "omnisexual."

Yeah, you've pretty much got it. Though by the time I finished season one, I realized that somewhere along the line I'd actually become emotionally invested in it. So viewer beware, I suppose.

Season two has been amazing so far. ^_^

Torchwood is finally available on Region 1 DVDs? Damn. Now I have to choose between it and BSG Season 3.

Wait until the two guys in ww2 uniforms start kissing in the middle of the USO-like party ( in the past ).

Yes, I've been addicted for a while :)

PS : Not to give it away, but later on ( in a Dr Who crossover ) you will love how Torchwood was created.
