The check for my grad school app still hasn't been deposited, and I am starting to worry I either forgot to enclose it or they lost it and round-filed my app.

What's your bank say?

Well, I can't imagine what they would have to say about a check they don't know I wrote that hasn't yet been presented.

I would call and ask if it got misplaced due to being hand-delivered. I remember hearing that undergrad admissions get calls like that all the time, so it can't be that weird a thing for you to check on.

I can't imagine such calls make one look good though. I did get a stamped copy of the first page of the app showing they had gotten that... but I'd be devastated if I get rejected because the check somehow went afield.

My suggestion is to call and ask if they have everything they need and/or what the status of your application is. That sort of general question should not be at all noticeable. Also, grad students are typically expected to be flakes - I don't think it likely that calling will make you look bad.

Stop worrying then. It could easily take a full month to move all the checks together through the accounting office. Most places would have a note of what was missing attached to that stamped copy, if anything was.

Grad School checks...

MSU's law school held onto my app check for something like four months before they cashed the darn thing... right after they denied my app. Buggers. ;P

I'd give it an 80% probability of the check sitting in a pile on someone's desk somewhere underneath stuff. If you'd forgotten the check you probably wouldn't have gotten the confirmation. I've worked grad schools admissions committees - we want your money... even if it means we have to read your application.

are HORRID at getting to things involving new applications.

I have had friends wait up to the last minute to get into law school. Some were to the point of taking an offer from a second rate program when finally their first choice school got their act together.

CLearly the Office of the Registrar is the worst place on any campus.

Call Tuesday and just ask about the check. It won't make you look bad. It will make you look like someone who is responsible about details, and they can tell you "Oh we haven't gotten to cashing the checks a ha ha ha!" and you can relax. At least you know they got your app.

Yeah, call and ask. You would never get rejected for something like that. Seriously. I forgot to put the check in my CUNY application, and *after* they accepted me, they called and were like, yeah, you forgot to put in a check, and we can't process you till you've done that. Calling about this really can't hurt you.

Okay, that makes me feel better, since it's the same system and all. What the hell! I will laugh if I fogor to put mine in, since I ran home that day to do it.
