be in my book

Have you met a life-long friend through Harry Potter fandom? Want to tell me about it for possible inclusion in the second book in my HP series?

post here, post now, as I need to have the draft of the relevant chapter done by Monday.

ha. I met my wife through it, but I am sick as hell right now.

If either of you want to email me a quick narrative on that and tell me under what names you'd like to be known, your'e totally in.

I didn't meet a lifelong friend (we just met a few weeks ago), but she started talking to me because we were sharing a table at Starbucks, and I was reading OotP. And she's pretty rad.

I don't think I'm ever going to be able to shake the crazy Snape-obsessed friends I've met through Snapecast. Our love of the character and love and respect for each other is what made it possible for us to put out more than 50 hours of non-stop Snapefilled squeeing (and other assorted nonsense) despite marriages, break-ups, dissertation, the bar exam, the freshman fifteen, the terrible twos, career changes, loss of loved ones, graduate school, international relocation, ailing parents, the poor performance of Detroit's professional sports team, and anything else that real life threw our way.

There's some serious BFF action going on here. Or as Snape would describe it, Friends, Always.

during the course of my trip to england, in which I am making a stop to see someone I have known for 12 years (through the Internets, usenet and here) and never met, I am also having lunch with a fandom friend who I have known for two years (here) and never met. I don't know that we'll be BFF4Ever, but I wouldn't mind if we were?

also, my fandom friends have made immeasurable progress on improving my writing, which I regard as an amazing gift. they've also been good company on bad days, and if I could find ways to meet more of them, I totally would.

No, but if you need a narrative on Harry Potter fan events, I went on a historic steam train for the launch of the last book - lots of neat things and neat photos, easy to make interesting.

Via the Meetup.com HP group I have met some of the most amazing, intelligent, witty people I have in my entire life.

Now granted, I have only known many of them for about 2 years. But I can easily see that these will be lasting friendships.

I met my partner through HP fandom! She wrote Harry/Draco. Which I thought was JUST wrong. But it fostered a lot of discussion and a long distance courtship... :)

Can we talk about ourselves in third person? :D

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2008-02-20 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but not in my book. I sort of had to force myself to make that decision in large part because my critical relationships that have come out of HP are so complicated -- and that very much includes you.

I met Rebecca (formerly [livejournal.com profile] mijra, now [livejournal.com profile] sevensparrows) through the HP fandom in 2002. I later ended up going to the same college as her, and our friendship has spanned many distances (Florida - New Jersey, Florida - St. Louis, St. Louis - France) over these six years. She read my Snape/Hermione and enjoyed it.

There's also you, [livejournal.com profile] snogmonkey (who illustrated Switch and did the lettering that eventually wound up being my tattoo), Riley, [livejournal.com profile] kellanine, and [livejournal.com profile] ataniell93 who I'd consider great fandom friends. I've met everyone except [livejournal.com profile] snogmonkey in person at least once, if not more.

Oh, I suppose I can unfriend [livejournal.com profile] mijra now -- I kept her friended as she'd come in and use the account from time to time and what not, but yay, clean up.

I have no idea what blurbs I am using for this chapter yet, but I will let everyone who winds up in it know before I submit it.
