Mac question
Mar. 2nd, 2008 10:08 pmI've been asked to employ the LJ brain trust on a weird Mac problem.
New Mac. Running Leopard.
When trying to search email it's only searching the to: from: and subject: fields and not the whole of the messages.
Apparently this is the exciting new Mac bug.
"rebuilding the Spotlight index so that your searches will live again!" has already been tried
(http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080201111317585)
Apparently totally random solutions work for different people.
Anyone got anything?

Date: 2008-03-03 11:51 am (UTC)Not a Windows supporter. It suits my needs, but the minute another OS supports all the programs I like, I'm jumping ship ;) Just wanted to do the obligatory 'Mac sucks!' thing :P
The only thing I can think of is to start looking around for anti-virus and firewall for Mac. And to stop bragging about how mac's are so untouchable. They have just as many holes as Windows, but there's less people using them, which is why they're more "safe." The less people that use an OS, the less likely that OS will get attacked with viruses.
I'm not entirely sure why that is. Someone more technically inclined might.
Have you tried searching Google? (forgive me if you have, it's just that a lot of people I know in real life tend to forget it exists sometimes). Or have you tried Lifehacker (http://lifehacker.com/) (they have an archives section all the way at the bottom of the page. You could try the Spotlight category/tag, assuming they have one. If not, then there's definitely a Mac tag. Or an OSX tag or something of the like. Productivity sites tend to be big on Mac)?
That's about all I got. Sorry for my shoddy tech-man-ship when it comes to Macs :(
