- I am coughing every two seconds. I cannot possibly fence. I called Sangsook and asked her to put me on the list for those new sabres. Oi.

- Had lunch with Kali. Writing a novel is hard. Because while my solo project suffers from my being unable to just write the thing even when it's terrible, this project suffers from the need to develop a magical system and landscaping problems. Don't ask.

Late post, and someone beat me to it (kinda), but I was going to suggest killing two birds with one stone and basing a magical system on topiary. No, wait, really . . . this can work . . .

At essence it would be a magical system based on transmutation and animation of living (or perhaps once living material). Nothing can be created whole cloth, but if you can create a living form (inset topiary here) it can be magically invested, augmented, animated. Topiary isn't the only thing this works with, but provides an an excellent and pliable structure. No the flip-side, or dark art ('cuz, there's got to be a shadow) might have to do with the application of the same arts to the "once living", or de-facto necromancy . . . that or something to do with root veggies.
