I wrote Kushiel fic last night. Imriel/Lucius. It was fun to do mainly because I think I was true to the voice and cadence of the thing, and it's fun for me to step outside my own rhythms as a writer to find such things.

I read the first Kushiel book and it was okay. How are the follow-up books in comparison?

I just started the second trilogy, which I _love_. It's less epic, and I kinda totally identify with Imriel's (our new narrator) shit (he's all "Just because Elua said love as thou wilt doesn't mean people need to run around having tacky pointless affairs and acres of drama").

The books certainly have their problems, and the third book in teh original trilogy probably has one of the darkest most unbareable 200 pages in it of anything I've ever read, but I'm so impressed with the geographic scale, and so love the culture/religion that Carey has created, I'm sort of willing to endure.
