Home from Lunacon. Well, more accurately, we got home, got Patty packed for Ohio, took a nap and then I took her to the airport. She didn't need me to, but I had the luxury of doing so, and it was nice, getting to wave at her as she went through security. She'll be back Sunday, but I miss her like mad. I am now wearing the scarf she wore at Lunacon, but left at home. Meanwhile, she has BunBun with her -- the small fuzzy rabbit puppet I got her at Whole Foods.

We are painfully cute. I spend a lot of time making ridiculous, funny promises to her such as "I will not sex you up in the airport food court" and "I promise not to have KFed's babies." Also "I will raise you two healthy boys, if you steal them for us" and "I will play faculty husband and hold distressing teas for your colleagues. Perhaps we should hang your pick axe on the wall to go with my swords." She has also promised not to have KFed's babies, in case you were concerned.

I am worn down in every conceivable way from Lunacon. Not enough sleep. The toll crowds always take on me. The let down after being on stage, effectively, and getting a lot of attention. I am good at these things, and they are good for me in teh moment, but not good for me in the aftermath and I am still learning how to navigate them (they are also one reason I prefer film over stage work).

Also unhelpful on my post-Lunacon state of being was the debacle with the hotel. They called me at 2:57am, after Patty and I were long asleep, because of a noise problem reported by room 270 -- several floors and several hallways away from us. The irate residents of the room no longer wanted to discuss it with the hotel staff, but with the con staff. I AM NOT PART OF CON STAFF. But still, I was woken up from a dead sleep to deal with this insanity (or rather, to refuse to deal with it) at 3am, and my system hasn't been quite right since. End result -- 50% off the second night at the hotel.

My Broad Universe reading went wel, although it was clear to me that teh second section from my novel that I read doesn't work outloud, although I think it is basically solid. The first was sort of amazing, and I think I am actually quite scary when I get to do paragraphs of Ginmoi ranting. I am unsurprised.

I sold a small number of books in the dealer's room, but more than most people it seemed and I will take that.

In other news, I am very taken with the HBO John Adams and the performances are excellent. All the major ones, and I must also note teh fellow who plays Thomas Jefferson, but it may be the writing as much as teh acting I am responding to there -- Jefferson is weird, conflicted, delicate, hypocritical, shy, vain and defensive all at once, and is presented as a character in which I can see my own flaws.

I am DYING to see this film. I have this massive thing about John Adams and have probably spent more time over the course of my life researching him than anything else. I've read the McCollough (sp?) book like 3 times. Hell, my master's thesis revolved around his marriage. I am seriously obsessed.

I want to see this movie!!!

If you do plan on ever having a distressing tea for archaeology faculty members, please share the story - and ask me for recipes and conversation topics beforehand, if possible. My father is an archeologist/shovelbum as his second or third career, so I have a few ideas for Bad Topics of Conversation and the like.

Oh, and Patty may enjoy "Death by Theory" and its sequel:

Have I mentioned how glad I am that the world is safe from more spawn of KFed?
No?
Well, consider it mentioned. :)

The local newspaper's take on the John Adams series.

Entertaining 'Adams' no history lesson

I thought it would be interesting to watch. But we still have 3 or 4 sections of The War to watch from last fall. :(

I love that you promise not to have KFeds's babies. Although, I believe that the two of you would make babies that are excellent dancers.

We cancelled HBO during the writer's strike to tighten the belt a bit. I still haven't reordered it, but may do so in order to watch John Adams. My boyfriend worked about a week on it as a horseman, and a friend of mine did the background casting in Virginia. We are incredibly dorky when it comes to historical projects. Love them.

Hi [livejournal.com profile] rm. I found your LJ while reading over the information about the strike this Friday, and just wanted to pop over and thank you very much for coming to Lunacon. I'm glad you had fun with your panels, and I look forward to scheduling more interesting topics for you to discuss next year.

I also look forward to making crank calls at three in the morning, pretending to be hotel staff. ~_^
