Smith Street becomes a true Parisian Thoroughfare once a year, and it is blocked off and covered with 10 tons of sand for the world's largest Petanque tournament, (the French spin on Bocce). Piping-hot Merguez, ice-cold Stella Artois on tap and plenty of Ricard annisette are the staples. And for you dancers, the street becomes so slick next to the pomme frites stand that it becomes just as good as any waxed parquet dance floor .

All this and the exquisite sounds of the Dreamland Orchestra. We recommend dressing to beat the sun; straw hats and sunblock are the perfect accoutrements for this day.

May I just note:

- I'm a menace at bocce, and therefore assume I can kick some ass at petanque.
- Ah, Smith Street. That was another life.
- French stuff. Hahahaha, awesome.

Who's coming?

I'm getting married that day, so, um, I can't make it - though I want to. :D I love all things French!

Are you going to any parts of the DoV festival? I'm going to it all, and I'd love to say hi and chat for a bit in realtime.

Yes, Patty and I will be at all of it too. I'm just waiting on paying for my tickets until I find out if I'm modeling in it, in which case, my pocketbook will be very happy. We definitely have acquaintances in common, so it will be nice to finally meet!

Hooray! I'm glad Patty will be back - I want to meet her too, after all your burbling :)

Oh, I am so excited.... I have to get some skirts soon. I tend to cobble everything together - don't sew, know what I mean? I'm about half cobbled right now...

And I need some kind of anachronism icon.... but that is neither (ha) here nor there.

I'll rise and sing La Marseillaise at midnight our time. (I usually do, which can earn you some odd, yet oddly appreciative, looks if you happen to be in, say, a Saskatchewan doughnought shop at the time.)
Good times!

Of course, it is always possible that this may lead to singing "-oh, shit, I forget the words! But something something heroic and glorious" in French. It has happened.

It has happened.

New icon is very young Wilde-ian. You look fabulous.

I'm very disappointed to miss the Bastille Day festivities, but we are going to a Waterloo reenactment in PA. I hope the reenactment is good, because I'd hate to miss something so goo so close to home...

"A menace at bocce" is either a fic title or a skill of the 21st century.

I used to kick *butt* at petanque, and really should buy a set of boules or pry one out of my father, who should still have one or two. Plus it's a sport my illness probably won't interfere with, as long as the little old European men tolerate my tire marks on the field. (There's a dedicated field in Golden Gate Park, so I have no excuse.)

Mmmm, proper frites. Thank goodness I found a few places to have them here.

And a good warning for Bastille Day; I should make some reservations at our favorite restaurant(s). Thanks!

Also, 'petanque' is one of the best onomatopoeic words ever.
