Jul. 21st, 2008 08:41 pmI got a postcard from Patty today. I love how she addresses them, writing AMERICA, instead of USA or United States of America on the last line of it, as if she is writing to me, not in this nation of here and now, but in some manner of idea filled with Jeffersonian romance.
It makes me smile every fucking time.
There's a good chance I'll hear from here online tomorrow from Damascus, which means the journey has started. She's actually felt closer to here since Saturday, at least in the strange way in which I experience the world

Date: 2008-07-23 08:01 am (UTC)I've been doing that just because the Arabic word for it is Ameriki, so I figure America has a better chance of being recognized and making it through the mail, while the other way might get someone who tries to pronounce USA as a word rather than an acronymn.
